To my students: I very much appreciate your enthusiasm for this site, but please only use this site to request books or start a discussion about a book or something you’ve read.

Exciting announcement! We have now been featured in the Gulf News. Click on the blue text for a link to the article.
————————————————————————-
I am currently reading: Blind Willow/Sleeping Woman by Haruki Murakami. I also finished a book about Hezbolla and Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
———————————————————————————–
UPDATE: Since this operation is still pretty small scale, I’ve decided that I’ll just do book drops or organize chats whenever it’s requested. See the tab at the top for full information.
——————————————————————————
NEW!! CHARITY BOOK SALE: Recently, I was approached by someone who was moving and had a large number of books that they could not/did not want to move. These books were offered to me under the condition that they be sold and the money given to charity. I gratefully accepted. I am entering the information now, and if my internet connection holds, I should have the charity book list posted and available by the end of the weekend.

UPDATE: I’m trying to update the site a bit by making a few changes. First, I figured I had enough books to create a memoirs/biography page, so look for that under non-fiction.
I also put the author’s names in the tag cloud. I think this might make it easier for people to find a particular author that they’re looking for, but it could also result in a lot of unwanted traffic to the site, which could frustrate or annoy some people who are just looking for a basic book review.

Welcome to Humaira, who has generously contributed her library to the book sharing club. You can find her library in the categories to the left. Thanks for sharing!

Welcome to the Al Ain Book Sharing Club.
This is only a club in the loosest sense of the word. I’m Stephanie and I’m administer of the site. Basically, there are a lot of people in Al Ain who want to read, but the only option around is to buy books all the time, read them once, and let them gather dust.
Using this site is easy. Each person who contributes a library will have their name posted with the sub-categories of fiction and non-fiction. If you see a book you want on the list, contact that person and arrange a meeting time to exchange the book.
I’m gonna be playing around with this for a bit, figuring out what will work best. Comments are very welcome.
Hi Stephanie!
So good to see this . I wish you all the best. And I’d love to be a part of this book sharing group too.
Have a great day.
Yasmin.
Great idea..would this include kids books as well?
That depends entirely on what other people add to the library. I only have one Children’s book at the moment, so as soon as we get some people willing to lend children’s books, that should become a reality.
Sound idea. Like most other newly arrived UAEU staff, all my books are in storage, and likely to remain there until well into October. But keep my place warm, please.
Great idea ..so glad you made the website..all the best
I think you’ve done a good job with the website, good layout, colours, text font uniformity and it’s user friendly. Great idea, thanks.
How do I give you a list from my personal library? I mainly have books on history and theology though. Not sure who is interested.
Good stuff! I just added a link to you on my blog…
Ah, cheers for that. Welcome to the neighborhood!
@Ryan:
Go to the “Lend your books” tab at the top of the page and click on it for instructions. It’s pretty easy.
I’m SO sorry for the late reply. Your comment got sent to my spam folder, which I don’t check very often. Now I know I need to be a little more diligent about that.
Hello! What a great idea! I just moved to Al Ain a month ago and was asking people about book groups and booksharing. Like many, I have books all stored away at home, but love that idea of trading out since I noticed the few books I’ve picked up here are not cheap. I’ll be in touch. Thanks!!
Hi
I am a student in the university in al ain. I will do a presentation about a multicultural UAE. I chose this topic because I want to make people here especially locals aware of the multicultural society they are living in and I want all of us to respect others more so that we can live here, in the UAE happier.
It would be great if you can give me some ideas to do this presentation. I also have some questions for you.
-What do you like about local people?
-What don’t you understand about them?
-Do you have any problems with people from different cultures that arise from language, cultural and religious differences?
-Do you have any funny situations created from the difference in cultures or languages?
Please mail me your answers to reefuns@hotmail.com
Or simply post them on you blog I will come to check.
Thank you in advance
